We are at the\u00a0<strong>end of the tenth month of the current year and this number amounts to 14.5 billion dollars.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes, you read that right. There are still 2 months left and I\u2019m only talking about the value of NFTs minted in Ethereum.\u00a0<strong>So who would want to be left out of such a move? Few people. So, what do you need to know to be part of it? Well, for starters, how to successfully mine an NFT.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this article, I will review the salient points to keep in mind when integrating yourself into the world of digital art by successfully mining a NFT.<\/p>\n<div class=\"is-divider divider clearfix\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"is-divider divider clearfix\"><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"first_what_does_it_mean_to_%e2%80%9cminting_an_nft%e2%80%9d\"><\/span><strong>First, what does it mean to \u201cminting an NFT\u201d?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>I will start by defining what it is we are going to \u201cminting\u201d. Then I will take the time to attack that verb.\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cMintear\u201d became popular in the ecosystem, through a literal transcription into our language of the English word \u201cmint\u201d with the addition of the syllable \u201cear\u201d, to give it a verbal nature. The Spanish language is still struggling to find a translation that meets the exquisite palates of the cryptos in linguistic matters.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what_is_an_nft\"><\/span><strong>What is an NFT?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>This acronym represents three words,\u00a0<strong>Not Fungible Token. The fungibility of a token indicates that it can be exchanged for another token, which has the same value.<\/strong>\u00a0For example, no one pays attention to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitnovo.com\/blog\/en\/how-to-mine-bitcoin\/\">when a BTC was mined<\/a>\u201c, since all of them, as long as they are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitnovo.com\/blog\/en\/what-is-bitcoin\/\">BTC<\/a>, represent the same value.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitnovo.com\/blog\/en\/what-is-an-erc-721-token\/\">NFTs<\/a>, the letter \u201cN\u201d in the acronym indicates the opposite.\u00a0<strong>These are tokens that have unique and unrepeatable characteristics that mean that they cannot be exchanged among themselves, given their very nature.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>From this definition we can also conclude that its value is purely and exclusively subjective.<\/strong>\u00a0We must not lose sight of this simple sentence that will help us to understand the past, present and future of this market.<\/p>\n<p>What do we find built around these NFTs?\u00a0<strong>Metaverses or parallel worlds, games in which money is earned, representation of real assets in the blockchain and infinite possibilities. However, the bulk of those 14.5 million dollars, are related to collectible images<\/strong>, created on the blockchain, whose subjective valuation, reaches astronomical levels.<\/p>\n<p>And how do these digital images\u00a0<strong>come to generate a market of 14.5 million dollars a year? The first step is to mine them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what_is_minting_an_nft\"><\/span><strong>What is minting an NFT?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>These collections of images are the result of, in most cases, collaborations between programmers and artists. The former are in charge of writing the code to host the NFTs on the blockchain, while the latter group is in charge of the image design.<br \/>\nThis is where we, <strong>the users, come in. We speculate on the value that this image may have, we gather the necessary cryptos and we get ready for the famous \u201cmining\u201d of NFTs.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>So what do we do when we mine? Technically, we interact with a smart contract. From our wallet we send the amount of tokens that the \u201cminting\u201d function requires, we pay the corresponding gas,<\/strong>\u00a0like a good son of a bitch, and we pray for the transaction to be completed.<br \/>\nIf the latter happens,<strong>\u00a0a random algorithm \u201cdecides\u201d the characteristics of our NFT<\/strong>. Therefore,\u00a0<strong>a good dose of luck and an optimal internet connection are great allies to successfully conclude this adventure.<\/strong>\u00a0Without further ado, let\u2019s move on to the guide.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"prior_to_%e2%80%9cmint\"><\/span><b>Prior to \u201cmint<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>At the risk of belaboring a perhaps somewhat obvious point, in order to mine an\u00a0<strong>NFT, we must first find out when, where and how the event will take place.<\/strong><br \/>\nSo,\u00a0<strong>what are the best sources of information on mining events?<\/strong>\u00a0In my opinion there are three in the following chronological order:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Twitter<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Discord<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Telegram<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Why the chronological order? Most of my adventures with NFTs happened in the following way:\u00a0<strong>I find out via twitter when a new protocol comes out and it is presented as \u201cNFT collection\u201d.<\/strong>\u00a0They usually present a few images as a preview and I can already tell if I like them or not.<\/p>\n<p>Quickly,\u00a0<strong>they themselves will present their most important communication resource, their Discord channel. This social network<\/strong>, while very powerful and organized, is a bit overwhelming for me. Consequently, I only log in<strong>\u00a0to fulfill \u201cmissions\u201d or requests from the protocol, which I note via Twitter.<\/strong><br \/>\nFinally, Telegram. <strong>Whether it is the official group of the collection, if it exists, or an unofficial group dedicated to the effect<\/strong>, it is a good thermometer to measure the mood of those interested in the project and keep abreast of their expectations.<br \/>\nNow that we know the project, let\u2019s get ready to mine.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"the_time_to_mine\"><\/span><b>The time to mine<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Finally comes the day of the project\u2019s release, by means of the famous \u201cminting\u201d of NFTs.\u00a0<strong>How to prepare?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>To have cryptos ready to pay for mining and network gas<\/strong><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Connect the wallet to the site that \u201chosts\u201d or provides the platform for the event.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>I try to have as much internet bandwidth as possible.\u00a0<\/strong>To this end, I usually disconnect all devices connected to the wifi, except my computer.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Wait for the launch time following the project\u2019s recommendations. For example, some recommend waiting for the countdown without refreshing the page, while others encourage their users to refresh the page.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Once the famous \u201cmint\u201d button is activated, and here only my subjectivity and experience speak, wait two or three seconds and click on \u201cmint\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now,<strong>\u00a0if luck and the gods of the Internet have given us their blessing, we can only wait for the approval of the transaction.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"i_already_lied_and_now\"><\/span><b>I already lied, and now?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Once the steps of the previous section have been completed and the transaction has been approved, the time for patience comes.<strong>\u00a0Generally the images can be seen on the page where you minted or in the wallet itself, depending on the network, after a few minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once the NFT materializes into a digital image, it\u2019s time to turn to trusted groups and start sharing the experience. Be prepared for moments of uncertainty and excitement.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"safety_recommendations\"><\/span><b>Safety recommendations<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>NFTs<\/strong>\u00a0are a token, just like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitnovo.com\/blog\/en\/what-is-an-erc-20-token\/\">fungible tokens<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>therefore it is not minor to take certain security measures to avoid the famous hacks or thefts that we know in the crypto world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I<strong>t is always advisable to enter projects that you consider safe and, if possible, with known teams<\/strong>. We have seen, on several occasions, projects in which after the \u201cmint\u201d transaction is approved, users lose the total funds stored in the wallet used.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For this reason, a practice that I have resorted to on several occasions is to create a new wallet. I send to it only the amounts necessary to participate in the \u201cminteo\u201d, as long as they are amounts that I am willing to lose.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before closing this section, I wanted to mention an issue related to privacy.<strong>\u00a0We know that today it is fashionable, we see it every day in different networks, to use minted NFTs as profile pictures. Although it is a way to proudly present our holdings to the world, it is also a way to easily expose our capital to malicious people. Of course, these will depend on our intentions.\u00a0<strong>We can choose to loot it, if we are interested in collecting it (or if there are rumors that the NFT will be useful in the future) or we can sell it on the market at the best possible price.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now we come to a complex part. As I said at the beginning,\u00a0<strong>the price of the NFT is completely subjective<\/strong>. But there is no point in presenting it for sale at a price that no one will be willing to pay, or at a value that does not convince us. So,\u00a0<strong>what objective parameters can we take to support our subjectivity when pricing an NFT?<br \/>\n<\/strong>First, <strong>the price floor and ceiling.<\/strong>\u00a0Pay attention to the market and compare the minimum price with the maximum price. Secondly,\u00a0<strong>wait for the publication of rankings or rarity lists.<\/strong>\u00a0Through these tools we will be able to locate our\u00a0<strong>NFT<\/strong>\u00a0in the collection and\u00a0<strong>set the price based on the ranking or compare it, at least, with those with similar characteristics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Based on these parameters, defining the sales amount of a digital image will be substantially simpler.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"is-divider divider clearfix\"><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"a_reflection\"><\/span><strong>A reflection<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There is no other way to close this article than by clarifying that n<strong>one of what you read here is purchase advice<\/strong>.
