What differentiates BitTorrent from many other downloading methods is that it maximizes the transfer speed by gathering parts of the file that the user wants, downloading all the missing parts from people who already have them on their own server (computer).<\/p>\n<p>You may not know this, but the original\u00a0<strong>BitTorrent was the brainchild of Bram Cohen<\/strong>, a well-known developer and entrepreneur in the cryptocurrency world.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018,\u00a0<strong>TRON completed its acquisition of BitTorrent<\/strong>, bringing this platform under the control of Justin Sun. TRON is also behind the addition of cryptocurrencies to BitTorrent, as the BTT token was launched on its blockchain, a strategy designed in order to add more decentralized features to TRON\u2019s platform.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"is-divider divider clearfix\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"col small-12 large-12\">\n<div class=\"col-inner\">\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how_does_the_bittorrent_platform_work\"><\/span>How does the BitTorrent platform work?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>BitTorrent is a peer to peer protocol<\/b>\u00a0that offloads part of the file tracking work to a central server (called a tracker). One of its most outstanding features\u00a0<strong>is that it uses a principle called \u201ctit-for-tat\u201d since, in order to receive files, you must also provide them<\/strong>\u00a0and the more files you share with others, the faster your downloads will be.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, as we have already mentioned,\u00a0<strong>to ensure fast download times<\/strong>, BitTorrent downloads different parts of a file simultaneously from multiple computers.<\/p>\n<p>Behind this system there is a tracker that identifies the connected computers that have all or part of the file and that participate in the sending and receiving process.<\/p>\n<p>In this way the user receives multiple parts of the file to be downloaded simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, the greater the number of computers involved in the swarm, the faster the file transfer.<\/p>\n<p>Users who download from a BitTorrent swarm are known as \u201cleechers\u201d or \u201c<strong>peers<\/strong>\u201c. Users who remain connected to a BitTorrent swarm even after downloading the entire file are called \u201c<strong>seeders<\/strong>\u201d as they contribute more upload bandwidth so that others can continue downloading files.<\/p>\n<p>In order for a torrent to be downloaded,\u00a0<strong>a seeder<\/strong>, which has a complete copy of all the files in the torrent,\u00a0<strong>must initially join the swarm so that other users can download the data.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The system works like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">You open a web page and click on a link for\u00a0<strong>the file you want to download<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The BitTorrent client software communicates\u00a0<strong>with a tracker to find other computers running BitTorrent that have the full file<\/strong>\u00a0(seed computers) and those with a portion of the file (peers).<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The tracker identifies connected computers<\/strong>\u00a0that have all or part of the file and are in the process of sending or receiving it.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The tracker helps the client software exchange parts of the desired file with other computers in the swarm.\u00a0<strong>Your computer receives multiple parts of the file simultaneously.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">If you continue to run the BitTorrent client software after the download is complete,\u00a0<strong>others may receive .torrent files from your computer;\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Your future download rates improve because\u00a0<strong>you occupy a higher place in the tit-for-tat system.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Downloading parts of the file also helps solve a common problem with other peer-to-peer download methods:<strong>\u00a0the more computers involved in the swarm, the faster the file transfer<\/strong>\u00a0because there are more sources of each part of the file and the overall speed is greatly improved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"is-divider divider clearfix\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"col small-12 large-12\">\n<div class=\"col-inner\">\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"btt_the_bittorrent_native_token\"><\/span>BTT, the BitTorrent native token<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col small-12 large-12\">\n<div class=\"col-inner\">\n<p>The cryptocurrency\u00a0<strong>BTT is BitTorrent\u2019s native cryptocurrency<\/strong>\u00a0and is a TRC-10 cryptographic token,\u00a0<strong>based on the Tron blockchain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>total supply of BTT tokens is 990,000,000,000,000 BTT tokens<\/strong>, which have been distributed as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">6% was available in a public token sale;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">2% in a private sale;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">9% in a seed sale;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">19% of the supply went to the BitTorrent team and the BitTorrent Foundation.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">20% went to the TRON Foundation;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Another 19.9% went to the BitTorrent ecosystem.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">A further 20.1% is reserved for advertising launches to be carried out in different stages until 2025.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Finally, 4% of the tokens are reserved for partnership activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>BTT plays several roles in the distribution of BitTorrent products, including allowing users to pay others for faster downloads with BitTorrent Speed.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing, there are 659,952,625,000 BTTs in circulation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"is-divider divider clearfix\"><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"col small-12 large-12\">\n<div class=\"col-inner\">\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how_to_mine_btt\"><\/span>How to mine BTT<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The BitTorrent platform bases its protocol on the Delegated Proof-of-Stake algorithm.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore<strong>\u00a0it is not possible to mine BTT in the traditional sense of the word<\/strong>, as is the case with Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>As previously stated, BTT allows users to pay for downloads of large files and for more bandwidth to enable faster downloads. This allows incentivizing file hosts to keep more files available on the network, allowing any user to download faster.<\/p>\n<p>The system works like this:<\/p>\n<p><strong>All users who share<\/strong>\u00a0the full copy of the files stored on their computers (seeds)\u00a0<strong>are rewarded with BTT tokens<\/strong>. This means that no expensive equipment is needed and any user can participate in BTT\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitnovo.com\/blog\/en\/what-is-cryptocurrency-staking\/\">staking<\/a>\u00a0and earn rewards just for storing files on their computer and sharing them with others.
