They warn that more and more businesses are adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets, and therefore, according to them, McDonald\u2019s risks falling behind if it doesn\u2019t incorporate Bitcoin into its portfolios.<\/p>\n<p>However, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/corpfin\/no-action\/14a-8\/ncpprmcdonalds32825-14a8.pdf\">document<\/a> filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) indicates that <strong>the company is not interested in discussing the proposal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"whats_the_story_behind_this_initiative_discover_whos_pushing_it\"><\/span><strong>What\u2019s the story behind this initiative? Discover who\u2019s pushing it<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s provide context: the Bitcoin acquisition proposal emerged when the National Center for Public Policy Research (<strong>NCPPR<\/strong>), a conservative think tank and McDonald\u2019s shareholder, <strong>sent a letter to the fast-food chain\u2019s management urging the adoption of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitnovo.com\/blog\/impacto-etf-bitcoin-trump-vs-bitcoin-real\/\">cryptocurrency<\/a> for long-term benefit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the NCPPR\u2019s statement reads:\u00a0<em>\u201c<strong>McDonald\u2019s should<\/strong>, and perhaps has a fiduciary duty, to <strong>consider adding assets to its treasury that appreciate enough to offset<\/strong> the devaluation of its cash and surpass the appreciation of its real estate, assets that appreciate enough to offset the devaluation of its cash.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, in the proposal, they cited the success of\u00a0<strong>Strategy<\/strong>, formerly\u00a0<strong>MicroStrategy<\/strong>, aiming to demonstrate that the shares of Michael Saylor\u2019s company have increased by\u00a0<strong>2,360%<\/strong>\u00a0more than McDonald\u2019s over the past five years. For example, they did so with\u00a0<strong>Microsoft<\/strong>, receiving a rejection in\u00a0<strong>December 2024<\/strong>, citing the cryptocurrency\u2019s volatility.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what_happened_with_the_bitcoin_proposal_at_mcdonalds\"><\/span><strong>What happened with the Bitcoin proposal at McDonald&#8217;s?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Amid all these arguments, <strong>the proposal was not added to the agenda for the upcoming shareholder meeting in May<\/strong>.
