On the one hand \u201c<b>Stellar\u201d is the name of the project<\/b>\u00a0and on the other,\u00a0<b>\u201cLumens\u201d\u00a0<\/b>are Stellar native cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"stellar_project\"><\/span><b>Stellar Project<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>This decentralized open source protocol called Stellar\u00a0<b>allows to transfer fiat to cryptocurrencies and vice versa.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The goal is to allow users to operate easily, safely and quickly with international transactions between any pair of coins.<\/p>\n<p>The birth and growth of this protocol is driven by an organization called\u00a0<b>Stellar Development Foundation<\/b>, which operates on a non-profit basis.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bitnovo.com\/blog\/en\/what-is-blockchain-and-how-does-it-work\/\">Bitcoin blockchain<\/a>, Stellar\u2019s blockchain was not designed to be used as a direct means of payment. It seeks instead to be\u00a0<strong>an intermediary in currency conversion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Many have placed Stellar as a competitor of Ripple (XRP) and it is true that both projects share much of the mission and vision.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"how_does_stellar_work\"><\/span><b>How does Stellar work?<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The main objective, as we said before, is to\u00a0<b>facilitate payments, accelerate them and make them safer for users<\/b>. These payments are issued via \u201cAnchors\u201d which act as a link between any currency and the Stellar network. One of them will change the charge for the credit anchored to the network. As a result of his deposit, a credit will be granted in his wallet which can be sent and received among network participants.<\/p>\n<p>The Stellar network has the advantage of supporting a distributed exchange model. This means that\u00a0<b>even if a user has a credit in euro, he can send in another currency, for example USD<\/b>. This is due to the fact that the platform deals with making currency conversion automatically and in addition to the best available rates.
